Are you experiencing an up-tick in bias related incidents in your schools and communities? In recent years, our nation has experienced a significant rise in bias incidents, and in New Jersey alone, incidents have risen from 367 in 2015 to 1,985 in 2022. Alarmingly, many of these incidents involve our youth.
At Synergy, we specialize in reducing bias incidents through educational programs designed to improve relationships and build a sense of community belonging. Our founders have over 80 years of service to our country and our communities, and they continue to serve as guardians for those whom we cherish most, our youth.
Our training program is innovative because it is specifically designed to give our audiences insight into their own implicit biases, in a manner that highlights the fact that we all have them. By also sharing our own implicit biases, we give our audiences a glimpse into our lived experiences, which enables us to explore how our implicit biases affect our perceptions, judgments, and decisions, in our personal and professional daily interactions. This examination, through an empathetic lens, helps minimize the “us vs them” mentality, which is key to reducing biases.
Our training is focused on creating an educational environment in which every student feels safe, welcomed, supported, and valued. Centered around increasing empathy, and considering each other’s points of view, our overarching goal is to proactively build relationships, community trust, and a sense of belonging.
We also provide training to our youth regarding interactions with law enforcement, including during motor vehicle stops. Our focus is on ensuring these interactions end safely for everyone involved, while also educating young drivers on what they are obligated to do under the law, and what their rights are under the law.
